Intelligent Design and Prodigal Son

Speaking of intelligent design and prodigal son: here's my I.M. Pei "floating" platform bed + on the wall a 1:2 reproduction of Rembrandt's Return of the Prodigal Son - the 262 x 206 cm (!) original is displayed at the Hermitage in Leningrad, correction St. Petersburg ... The picture was made days after I moved into my appartment 3 years ago, so it's a bit dull. Things look a bit lifelier now but you get the idea.

  1. Job I love it.
This exhibits quite an appreciation for DESIGN reinforcing my theme.
Very monastic. Interesting choice to not center the painting over the bed.
Is that a Teddy Bear in the corner?

  2. The off-center placement was done deliberately. I also have 3 Chagall lithographs. All off-center ... Learned that trick from an interior designer friend of my parents when I was young. Try it.

Picture was taken just days after I moved into my apartment. Yes, it's a teddy bear, belongs to one of my daughters. I was still unpacking and just "dumped" it there for lack of a better spot (and for emotional reasons, long sad story). It's in a different location now and the table is loaded with 3 piles of books that I'm reading simultaneously ... Also acquired new and improved duvet (or whatever it's called) since the picture was taken. And a cinema-type floor standing spot light - cheap from Target (!) but very effective.

Pei's platform bed design never fails to please me, esthetically and practically. Also has adjustable head and foot ends - never use that feature.

Darn, on my third bottle of Grolsch. Your fault!
