Did I see a price of $9600 US? FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION It was, however, the American architect Louis Sullivan who coined the phrase, in 1896, in his article «The tall office building artistically considered». Here Sullivan actually said 'form ever follows function', but the simpler (and less emphatic) phrase is the one usually remembered. For Sullivan this was distilled wisdom, an aesthetic credo, the single "rule that shall permit of no exception". The full quote is thus: It is the pervading law of all things organic and inorganic, Of all things physical and metaphysical, Of all things human and all things super-human, Of all true manifestations of the head, Of the heart, of the soul, That the life is recognizable in its expression, That form ever follows function. This is the law.[3]
Steve - I still love my Cervelo R3. I note that a new frame/fork/seat post is $3100 at Excel Sports. The SL is $4000. If I recall correctly , I paid something like $2800 a few years ago. I've mentioned it before, but, I do not think the extra $1000 for 100 gm savings it a good trade-off. Our LBS discounts the frame, so you could do better price-wise than Excel.
Wes, still happy with your R3? I am still looking at the Cervelos. I was thinking about the R3SL. These bikes are getting so pricey.

ReplyDeleteFE - yeah that is expensive - hand made by the designers.
ReplyDeleteIt is odd, though, previously Cervelo prided itself in having no custom frames - only ~6 standard sizes for each model.
You could ride the exact same frame as the team rides. I guess if you can afford it, perhaps a project cali frame can be yours as well.
