I am a Designer

This was posted on Facebook by a friend who is a very talented interior designer. Although it clearly illustrates ones thoughts on a "bad day", it certainly tells a "truth' about this service industry /business. The trick is finding the clients who resonate with your ideas and appreciate what you have to offer. Not so easy. Hopefully not a Holy Grail search or studio A2 is going to be very frustrated.

  1. ...sometimes you just have to say NO!

the tension arises when you need the work/money...and your integrity could be comprimised...it can be a delicate balance...but, in the end, you will do the right thing...

of course, you can always go Howard Roark...

  2. The Ayn Rand term for "Postal". Can you say "BOOM"?
The same can be said for almost any service profession. Architecture has more impact because it creates built forms that take up space for extended periods of time. It also has many clients who are profit, not design driven. A lack of integrity is the problem with so much of the uninspired built environment. If people never see/experience great architecture or interior design, how would they ever place value on design excellence, become discerning clients and hire someone who can give them more? A better connection needs to be made to teach the value of good design for better economic and environmental reasons along with enhanced wellbeing.
