Southern Rock

Wes's reference to the classic Allman Brothers recording of Stormy Monday was recorded live at Fillmore 1971. One of the finest performances of that event was Whipping Post. Duane Allman and Dicky Betts fretting some fine guitar.

Another classic song I offer this Saturday morning is Layla, originally recorded I believe at Criteria Studios in Miami, a session that included Clapton and Duane Allman.

  1. Derek and the Dominos recorded "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" in Miami at Criteria Studios from Augst to October 1970

if i recall correctly from Clapton's biography, Derek was nickname or a derivative of eric somehow, can't find the book right now - missing from my library, hmmm, i hate it when that happens...in any case, hence, the name for the group "Derek and the Dominos."

...the album's single "Layla" (a tale of unrequited love inspired by Clapton's relationship with his friend George Harrison's wife, Pattie Boyd Harrison - also reported in clapton's biography) would make the top ten in both the United States and the United Kingdom was not released until 1972...

...Duane Allman played the slide guitar solo and, being a huge Duane Allman fan, i really dug the whole album...although, i was always felt kinda so, so with regards to Layla...

...but, not so, so that would prevent me from naming my white german shepard Layla (circa fall 1973)...and, i must say, she was one smart and beautiful dog...

  3. Forgive my redundancy. A tribute to the songs enduring standing in my desert island disks.

  4. ...no apologies necessary, i was simply noting the popularity of the tune...and am still amazed at the fond memories that can be plucked out of the mushroom soup that was the 70's...
